If you're a new sf fan, you may want to check out some of the classics of the genre. A great place to start is with the fathers of sf, Jules Verne and H.G.Wells. Verne's imagination is still inspiring hard core sf writers today, and Wells' stories are considered some of the best in English literature. Then take a detour with Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan. Although his writing is strongly rooted in fantasy, his Martian series is unsurpassed for swash-buckling space opera. After that, go directly to the masters of modern science fiction: Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke. Then, try out the novels by Robert A. Heinlein which broke sf to the top of the best-seller charts, and Harlan Ellison, the infant terrible of the New Wave writers.

This is a wonderful adventure of rebellion when a man from turn-of-the-century England falls asleep to awaken centuries later as an uncomfortable messiah.
