The R. F. Outcault Sales List
Welcome to The R. F. Outcault Sales List, page 1, featuring the Yellow Kid. All items on this list relate to the work of R. F. Outcault, and most of them were produced around the turn of the century. All items are described, pictured, and priced for immediate sale. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to all purchases. Any item may be returned in the condition it was shipped for a full refund if you are not satisfied with it. All of these items are also pictured in a video tape showing 362 different items, which is available for $25 if you want a larger picture of the item. Finally, as I am a collector and not a dealer, I am also willing to consider trades. Please feel free to contact me at the addresses at the bottom of the page.
There are a lot of pictures on this page, so please wait for them to come into view.
Lot #1
Yellow Kid Calendar Postcard, February, 1912
Although the YK calendar postcards were issued over several years, only 12
different images were ever created, one for each month. Thus the image for
February, 1912, looked identical to the image for February, 1914. Calendar
cards were published in a larger format than regular postcards; if you find
one the same size, it has been trimmed to fit an album or some other storage
mechanism. Untrimmed cards in NM/M condition are rare and might sell for
up to $250! Cards in lesser condition, especially those that have been trimmed,
sell for much less. The easiest way to tell if a card has been trimmed is
to measure it or check to see if there is a reasonable border around the
text and store name in the lower right corner. This card is priced at $75.
Lot #2
Yellow Kid Calendar Postcard, March, 1912
Another YK calendar card, this one is dated March, 1912. Although the card
appears to be in reasonably nice condition, you can see that it has been
trimmed significantly. This card is priced at $25.
Lot #3
Buster Brown and His Bubble, Card #1
R. F. Outcault once said that he thought this set of 10 postcards published
around 1904 was some of the finest art he ever produced! They all contain
Buster Brown and Tige, and 5 of them contain Pore Li'l Mose and the Yellow
Kid and their respective pets. Although the art is on a postcard, the right
side of the postcard is blank for a message. While the cards are fairly common
with lots of wear, they are hard to find in excellent condition. The five
cards on this sales list are beautiful and would be a welcome addition to
anyone's collection. This card is in VF/NM condition and is priced at $25.
Lot #4
Buster Brown and His Bubble, Card #2
From the set described in Lot #3, this card is in VF/NM condition and is
priced at $25.
Lot #5
Buster Brown and His Bubble, Card #6
From the set described in Lot #3, this card is in VF/NM condition and is
priced at $35.
Lot #6
Buster Brown and His Bubble, Card #7
From the set described in Lot #3, this card is in VF/NM condition and is
priced at $25.
Lot #7
Buster Brown and His Bubble, Card #10
From the set described in Lot #3, this card is in VF/NM condition and is
priced at $35.
Lot #8
Buster Brown Calendar Postcard, November, 1907
Like the Yellow Kid calendar postcards, the Buster Brown calendar cards were
also originally published in a larger format than regular postcards and you
must watch for trimming! This card is reasonably nice but has been trimmed
significantly. This card is priced at $5.
Lot #9
Buster Brown Trade Card: Buster Brown Bread
This Buster Brown trade card has a corner missing but it doesn't hurt the
art. Comic character trade cards are very popular. This card is priced to
sell at $10.
Lot #10
Buster Brown Trade Card
This Buster Brown trade card has a corner missing but it doesn't hurt the
art. This one appears to be an older example than the one in Lot #9. This
card is priced at $25.
